Trick or Treat Times and Haunted Happenings!!

LICCO Community Open House

LICCO Inc., the employment workshop operated by the Licking County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (LCBMRDD), will host a Community Open House from 10:30 a.m. to 1;30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7th. LICCO Inc. is located at 600 industrial Parkway, off Hopewell Drive , on block south of Route 79 in Heath. It is a non-profit corporation that partners with local businesses to provide meaningful work experiences for people with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. The Community Open House is planned to coincide with National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Tour the workshop during full operation and see the pride and work ethics that people with disabilities have. To participate you must wear closed toe and closed heel shoes that are appropriate in a safe manufacturing environment. Refreshments and a casual lunch will be available for a small donation to LICCO to benefit the "Citizens for MRDD." For more information, call LICCO at (740) 522-8345.

Women's Gathering at Christian Endeavor Church

The Christian Endeavor Church on Londondale Parkway is hosting a Women's Gathering on Tuesday, October 7th at 6:00 p.m. The cost to attend this gathering is $12 and it includes a ham loaf dinner and featured speakers Mark and Lori Johnson.

Fall Fashion Show and Card Party

The Newark-Granville Altrusa Club will have a Fall Fashion Show & Card Party on Tuesday, October 7th from 6:30 - 10:00 p.m. at Excel Academy Bingo Hall, 1355 E. Main Street in Newark. International Walk to School Day

The Granville Recreation Commission is inviting Granville Elementary School students and their parents to take part in an expanded International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 8th. The commission is encouraging people to gather at Opera House Park on the corner of Main Street and Broadway at 8:15 a.m. A healthy snack will be provided and Mayor Melissa Hartfield will greet the walkers as they arrive. The walk to school will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be held rain or shine.

" A Celebration! Licking County Bicentennial Art Exhibit" at The Works

The Works will be hosting an exhibit titled "A Celebration! Licking County Bicentennial Art Exhibit,"  Open now through October 10th at The Works Gallery in downtown Newark.  The art exhibit is being held in honor of Licking County's bicentennial year and will feature diverse works of art created by several artists from Licking and surrounding counties.  For More Information call The Works at  740-349-9277 or visit the web site at www.attheworks.org

Hannah Byers Fund Raiser

A fund raiser for Hannah Byers, a 6 year old with Leukemia, has been organized by the Summit Station United Methodist Church is to take place on Saturday, October 11th from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Four Pataskala service centers, Chet's Auto Repair, GT Tire, Quality Automotive, and Coughlin Chevrolet of Pataskala, will be giving an oil change for the price of a donation. Also, bring your old automotive batteries to be recycled and all profits from the batteries and oil changes will go directly to Hannah and her family to help with the cost of treatments and hospital stays. 

National Road Bus Tour II

Licking  Park District Staff and Licking County Commissioner and ,National Road Expert, Doug Smith, are holding a bus tour of the Historic National Road. The event will be Saturday, October 11th from 7:30 a.m.  - 5:00 p.m. The tour will cover historical points along Route 40 between Licking County and Wheeling Island on the Ohio River. There is a $60 fee which includes deluxe motor coach transportation, lunch at Theo's Restaurant in Cambridge, snacks, and educational materials. New Member Day at Dawes Arboretum

New and old members of the Dawes Arboretum are invited to a presentation by Luke Messinger, Excutive Director, over coffee and donuts about current and future project plans on Saturday, October 11th from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Following the presentation Mike Ecker, Director of Horticulture, will take members on a wagon tour of the garden and collections areas and also stop at the Daweswood House for some Dawes family trivia with historian David Vermillion. This is only open to Dawes members and although there is no cost, reservations are required. 

Harvest Moon Rendezvous

The Licking Park District is holding a Harvest Moon Rendezvous on Saturday, October 11th and Sunday October 12th, at The Infirmary Mound Park. The rendezvous will be from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on both days. Guests will get to step back in time and see what it was like to live like our ancestors did in the 1700's. You will get experience mountain men throwing tomahawks, try their hand at the musket shooting competitions, peruse period vendors, and more. Admission is Free and anyone wanting more information may contact the Licking Park District at (740) 587-2535.

"Mock" Grand Ole Opry Show

The Newark Chapter of The Ohio Country and Western Music Association will feature its members in a mock Grand Ole Opry show at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Ocotber 12th, at The Grotto Hall on Waterworks Rd. The show will follow their 1:00 p.m. meeting. There will be food, drinks, prizes, and more. The cost is $1 for members and $2 for non-members. YMCA Adult Volleyball

The Licking County YMCA is offering adult volley ball. Games are played 6 against 6 and each team will have 8 players. Games will begin October 23rd and go through December 11th. The cost is Free to members, $35 for associate members and associate memberships are $50. Teams are now forming and the registration deadline is Monday, October 13th. Dawes Arboretum Night Hike

The Dawes Arboretum will be hosting a Night Hike on Friday, October 17th, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Experience the arboretum at night as you hike though the collections, trails, and woodlands. There is no cost for the hike and everyone wanting to attend should meet at the Visitors Center Deck. 

"Don't Miss The Bus"

The Licking County Historical Society will host host their second Bicentennial "Don't Miss the Bus" tour on Saturday, October 18th. The tour of southern Licking County starts with a continental breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Buckingham House, and the bus will leave at 9:00 a.m. The cost is $35 for members and $40 for non-members, the cost includes the all-day trip, breakfast, lunch, and the admission to several historic sites in the county, with some surprises along the way. Millersport Volunteer Firefighter Association Toy Drive Poker Run and Pig Roast

The 1st Annual Holiday Toy Drive Poker Run & Pig Roast, sponsored by The Millersport Volunteer Firefighter Association, will take place Saturday, October 18th at The Port Lounge, 9308 Thorn Twp Rd 79 in Thornville. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. and the Poker Run starts at 11:00 a.m. with a pig roast dinner to follow. There will be 50/50 drawing, door prizes, silent auction and entertainment. The Works Science Theater Dedication Ceremony

The Works in downtown Newark will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the new Science Theater on Sunday, October 19th, at 12:30 p.m. The public is invited. The Science Theater is sponsored by ECOLAB, a world leader in commercial cleaning and sanitizing, therefore all ECOLAB employees and their families will be admitted free to The Works on October 19th. 36th Annual Thornville Lions "Country Fair"

The Thornville Lions is proud to bring you the 36th Annual "Country Fair" Sunday, October 19th from 11am to 5pm. (Thornville is located 4 miles south of interstate 70 at the intersection of State Routes 13 and 204.) It's one of Ohio's largest arts and crafts festivals with over 150 exhibitors and admission is FREE! Besides arts and crafts, there will be plenty of food on hand. **Rain date is Sunday, October 26th**

Facials for the Cure

Rejuvenations, located at 658 Hebron Rd. in Heath, will be giving facials for the cure on Friday, October 24th from 9:00 a.m. - 4 p.m. The cost is $25 for a half hour facial and all proceeds are going to the Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. The Pride of Newark Band  WIN A CAR Raffle!!

The Pride of Newark Band is selling raffle tickets to raise funds for travel expenses. Tickets are $20.00 each and the drawing will be held on Friday, October 24th at the last home football game. First prize is a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt, second prize is $1,000 and third prize is $500. Winner is responsible to pay Ohio sale tax, registration and title fees.
