DESCRIPTION:The City of Newark Parks Department will be hosting the 5th annual T.J. Evans Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday\, July 11th at T.J. Evans Family Park. The derby is open to youth aged 15 and under. Registration is free and in-person registration and check-in begin at 7:30am. Fishing starts at 8am following a brief introduction at shelter house #3. All fish caught (any species) will be brought for weigh-in as they are caught. Weigh-in stops at 10:45am and awards will begin around 11am. First through third place trophies will be awarded based on total weight of fish caught.\nDoor prizes will be raffled off throughout the event.\nT.J. Evans Family Park fishing permits are NOT required for participation. However\, all T.J. Evans Family Park rules apply.\nT.J. DESCRIPTION:The Newark Catholic High School (NCHS) and Newark High School (NHS) volleyball programs will host the “Showdown at Sundown” Licking County Volleyball Preview outdoors at White Field on Saturday\, August 15\, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The event will feature preview matches between 20 teams\, including Bellefontaine\, Circleville\, DeSales\, Gallia Academy\, Granville\, Heath\, John Glenn\, Johnstown\, Lakewood\, Lancaster\, Licking Valley\, Mount Vernon\, New Lexington\, Northridge\, Pickerington Central\, Pickerington North\, Pleasant\, River View\, Utica\, and Watkins. The final preview match of the evening will be between the co-hosts\, Newark and Newark Catholic. \nTwo volleyball courts will be set up in the center of the football field\, with bleachers set up around the court for student cheering sections. Both home and visitor stands will also be open. Fans can also bring bag chairs to sit on the turf. Since the event is considered a preview\, each match will consist of two sets to 21. Admission for the event will be $5.00\, and children aged five and under will be free. Full concessions will be available during the event\, featuring steakburgers\, brats\, hot dogs\, walking tacos\, shredded chicken sandwiches\, and more. \nIn the event of a rainout on August 15\, the event will be held on August 16. If it rains to the point that the event cannot be held outside on August 16\, the venue will move to Newark High School.
