NEWARK MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT
Scott Summerfield Jr., of Newark, is being held at the Licking County Justice Center accused of stabbing another man. Summerfield, 31, has been charged with felonious assault in connection with an alleged incident in late November that resulted in the victim being treated at Licking Memorial Hospital. Summerfield’s bond was set at $150,000.
Z'VILLE P.A.L.
The Zanesville Police Athletic League Boxing Gym, is a completely free, volunteer-run program serving youth in one of Zanesville's hardest-hit neighborhoods.
Spokeswoman Katelyn Fulcher said they are facing a winter crisis that could force them to shut down because winter utilities reach nearly $2,000 a month. If they can't raise enough support this December, the heat will be shut off, and the gym will have to close until spring. To learn more or to make a donation visit the Zanesville PAL Facebook page.
CPC FORUM
The next United Way of Licking County's Community Partners Council forum, entitled "The Season of Giving", will be held on Wednesday Dec. 10 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Licking County Aging Partners on East Main Street in Newark. At the forum the United Way will accept donations for its Hygiene Drive. To register for the forum visit www.unitedwaylc.org.
BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP
No. 1 Ohio state takes on No. 2 Indiana in the Big Ten Championship game Saturday night in Indianapolis.
Coach Ryan Day and the buckeyes are a roughly five point favorite heading into the title match. Kickoff Saturday is set for 8:00 pm.
HEBRON CHRISTMAS MARKET
The Hebron community is invited to attend the Hebron Christmas Market & Memorial Tree Lighting ceremony taking place Saturday from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Village Center. The tree lighting is in memory of Scott Walters the longtime councilman, devoted public servant, and true champion for the Village of Hebron who died in 2019 at the age of 55.
FUR BALL
The Licking County Humane Society recently held its annual Fur Ball at the Reese Center on the OSU Newark/COTC campus. The event raised money to fund not only the operating costs for the shelter but also to purchase and install a dental X-ray machine. The Licking County Humane Society is a non-profit, no-kill shelter that provides medical care and adoption services to over 2,000 homeless and abused animals a year.
